Mentor an At-Risk Youth After School with Higher Ground

Partner Description

Higher Ground has a mission of expanding purpose, possibilities, and hope for youth and families living in under-resourced communities. To prepare for lifelong learning, resilience, and socio-economic stability, they focus programs and services on social-emotional learning by surrounding youth with caring and competent mentors and by providing a space for youth to develop into healthy and successful adults. Parent programs rely on the community's expressed needs --healthy communication, parenting skills, workforce development and positive resources that enhance the family unit. Higher Ground also aims to address immediate needs of families through its food pantry, basic needs pantry, and completely free mental health services.
Need
Spend the afternoon with at risk youth and become part of Higher Ground’s mentorship program. Mentors are trusted adults who engage with our youth in an after-school program setting. Mentors will assist our youth with activities such as homework help, performing arts, fine arts, digital video media, cooking, and all sports. We uphold a small ratio of children to mentors so the interaction is close and meaningful. Our goal is to motivate students to find their personal and positive life paths.
More Details
Engage with youth in a variety of fun activities and get to know them. Higher Ground has youth from 2nd grade to 12th grade and their program runs Monday-Friday from 2pm-5pm (Wednesdays 1pm-5pm). Volunteer once to try it out and then serve on a regular basis if you can!
Next Steps
Each individual that signs up will receive an informational email from our lead and will be connected with Higher Ground.
