Higher Ground has a mission of expanding purpose, possibilities, and hope for youth and families living in under-resourced communities. To prepare for lifelong learning, resilience, and socio-economic stability, they focus programs and services on social-emotional learning by surrounding youth with caring and competent mentors and by providing a space for youth to develop into healthy and successful adults. Parent programs rely on the community's expressed needs --healthy communication, parenting skills, workforce development and positive resources that enhance the family unit. Higher Ground also aims to address immediate needs of families through its food pantry, basic needs pantry, and completely free mental health services.

Become a trusted, positive voice in a young person’s life! Higher Ground’s mentorship program brings caring adults into an after-school setting to build meaningful connections, motivate students, and help youth living in underserved communities discover positive paths for their futures.
More Details
This is an incredibly rewarding, interactive opportunity to engage with students from 2nd through 12th grade. Volunteers help maintain a small student-to-mentor ratio, ensuring every child receives close, personalized attention while participating in a variety of fun, enrichment activities.
Activities Include: Homework help, fine arts, performing arts, digital video media, cooking, and various sports.
When: Monday–Friday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (Wednesdays feature an extended schedule from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM).
Commitment: You are welcome to volunteer just once to try it out, with the opportunity to transition into a regular, recurring mentor role if it's a great fit!
